3D Artist of the Month November 2019: Jeffry Quiambao

The last shall be first: While Jeffry Quiambao did not meet the deadline for the character challenge his ‘Fennec Fox’ was intended for, we are more than happy to crown him winner of our 3D Artist of the Month competition in November 2019! Judging by the impeccable work on the vulpine monk, it might come as a surprise that Jeffry is not a character artist by trade, having a professional archviz background instead.

In our interview, Jeffry talks about character design, career ambitions and job hunting in his new Arizona home.

The heart of an artist: Bursting through the concrete with Pedro Conti

Pedro Conti is an accomplished 3D artist in every sense of the word. Hailing from São Paulo, Brazil, he has worked with some of the biggest studios in the animation industry, including Walt Disney and DreamWorks. Yet, it is the recently released music video to Ron Artis II’s ‘In My Heart’, a seemingly inconspicuous passion project between friends, Pedro considers his most artistic and sincerest achievement.

Check out our interview to learn more about the serendipitous origins and heartfelt development of Pedro’s latest project.

Art Wanted! Featuring José Santos

For our October 2019 ArtWanted! feature, José Santos takes us on a culinary journey…straight into the future! You better have a head for heights, though, as the ‘Best Noodles in Town’ are not exactly found at ground level. His cyberpunk depiction of a noodle stand, an impressive demonstration of his cinematic approach to architectural visualization, just won the Portuguese CG artist first place in a Kitbash3D design competition.

In our interview, José discusses his broad artistic influences, his love for the CG community and the creative allure of the mundane.

3D Artist of the Month October 2019: Sergey Buravtsov

Tuesday, October 1st, 2019 by Julian Karsunky

“Here’s looking at you, kid!” Sergey Buravtsov, our October 2019 3D Artist of the Month, takes us on a spiritual journey to the great plains of Northern Asia to meet ‘The Shaman’. Rich in expressiveness and ornate details, the elderly nomadic mystic greets the viewer with an equally captivating and knowing gaze.

While we’re not aiming to dispel the magic, we just had to find out more about the man behind the image. We sat down with Sergey to discuss his approach to character design, the importance of visual storytelling and the shamanistic lifestyle.

Art Wanted! Featuring Guave Motion

Monday, September 16th, 2019 by Julian Karsunky

In everyday life, we’re always prone to lose sight of the wonders of the world around us. In our business, for example, it is easy to forget the pure and simple visual joys of 3D artwork. Thankfully, every once in a while, a piece such as Guave Motion’s ‘Economy is Care’ animation comes along and rekindles this childlike delight. An explainer video with a serious message at its core, the Swiss studio created a world so rich in charm and detail, you can’t help but get drawn in.

In our interview, 3D artist Andreas Tanner talks about visualizing abstract concepts, managing hundreds of assets and models and putting a twist on traditional claymation.

3D Artist of the Month September 2019: Mojtaba Hatami

Monday, September 2nd, 2019 by Julian Karsunky

The beauty of our community spotlight is that we get to feature CG artists at different points in their respective careers: from experienced industry veterans to emerging talents. Mojtaba Hatami, our September 2019 3D Artist of the Month, is a self-described archviz amateur. For the last two years, he has been steadily honing his CGI skills in his free time. The recently published images are amateurish only in the sense that no immediate professional relationship prompted their creation. That is, not yet at least, since his passion and ability is an obvious sign of what might be the start of a promising career.

Check out our interview to find out more about Mojtaba’s motivation as an aspiring archviz artist and his approach to CG as a design language.
