El Cosmico 2.0: The World's First 3D-Printed Desert Oasis Takes Shape in Marfa, Texas

In the heart of the West Texas desert, a groundbreaking fusion of technology and design is unfolding. El Cosmico, the renowned bohemian hotel and campground in Marfa, is undergoing a transformative expansion to become the world's first 3D-printed desert oasis!

Spearheaded by hospitality visionary Liz Lambert, in collaboration with Austin-based construction tech company ICON and the acclaimed Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the project aims to redefine sustainable luxury.

The new El Cosmico will span over 60 acres, featuring 43 hotel units and 18 private residences, all constructed using ICON's advanced 3D printing technology. This method utilizes locally sourced materials like desert sand and soil, allowing for organic, curvilinear designs that harmonize with the surrounding landscape.

Amenities will include a bathhouse, a large infinity pool, and a restaurant led by a James Beard-nominated chef, offering guests an immersive experience that blends comfort with innovation.

The design, overseen by BIG, embraces cosmic themes and the natural contours of the desert, resulting in structures that are both futuristic and deeply connected to their environment.

Construction is underway, with the new El Cosmico expected to open its doors in 2026. In the meantime, the original location remains operational through 2025.
